GHANA NAVY CONDUCTS FLOOD RESCUE OPERATIONS IN SOGAKOPE AND DABALA The Ghana Navy, in collaboration with other security agencies, conducted rescue and relief operations in flood-affected communities within the Sogakope and Dabala general areas following severe flooding that inundated several communities on Monday, 30 June 2026. The operation formed part of coordinated efforts to safeguard lives, evacuate stranded residents and provide humanitarian assistance to affected communities. The Ghana Navy Special Boat Squadron (SBS) played a critical role in the operation by deploying highly trained personnel and specialised rescue equipment in support of the Naval Training Command. Using a Combat Rubber Raiding Craft (CRRC), ropes, lifebuoys, fins and facemasks, the team successfully reached inaccessible communities and evacuated residents trapped by rising floodwaters. Although personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service were deployed to support the emergency response, the prevailing flood conditions limited their ability to access many of the affected locations. Consequently, the specialised capabilities of the Ghana Navy Special Boat Squadron, particularly the CRRC, proved indispensable in conducting the rescue operations and ensuring the safe evacuation of flood victims. The operation also highlighted the vulnerability of elderly residents during emergencies. Many, due to limited mobility, were unable to evacuate in time and were left behind as younger members of their communities sought safety. The situation underscored the need for strengthened community disaster preparedness, targeted evacuation plans for vulnerable groups and sustained investment in specialised flood rescue capabilities. The successful operation reaffirmed the Ghana Navy's commitment to supporting civil authorities during national emergencies and protecting lives and property. It also demonstrated the importance of inter-agency collaboration, specialised operational capabilities and rapid response in mitigating the impact of natural disasters and enhancing national resilience. https://lnkd.in/dFy9Yb9N
